I read a lot and I still prefer hard copies (actual physical book in my hands). I guess it's just the feel and smell of paper from a new book that increases the immersion to me.
This is the first installation of a monthly journal I'm going to start, where I will suggest a piece of literary work that I have read and enjoyed. Whether it be a novel, graphic novel, poem, deviation, or any kind of writing that captured my heart or mind.
For my first edition I have selected the novel Jupiter by Ben Bova.
JupiterIf you have ever read Contact by Carl Sagan and enjoyed it, then Jupiter is right up your ally. Jupiter is more about the journey then the destination. It is heart felt with a test on belief and conviction with the main character Grant Archer, a young astrophysicist who goes on quite the "forced" adventure. Mixed with political espionage, religious zealots, and scientists who just want to discover the truth, the focus is on the characters invovled and there emotions and interactions that lead to Grants evolution spiritually, mentally and physically to the novels conclusion and beyond to you the reader.
This is a very relaxed kind of read, meaning you might not finish it in one sitting but go back to it from time to time. Sort of more like a comfort novel rather than the attention deficit instant action most of us expect from everything nowadays.
I hope some of you give it a try and give it a chance.
Enjoy!
